MASSAGE TECHNIQUES

Our therapists have a background in modalities including:

  • shiatsu - includes the use of fingers, thumbs and palms with specific pressure on various acupressure points on the body. Based in Traditional Chinese Medicine, this therapy balances the qi (energy) in the body where disease begins.

  • reflexology - a modality from traditional Chinese medicine that uses pressure applied to meridian points on the feet in order to affect the meridian channels in the whole body. This type of healing benefits the organs and organ systems in the body and overall wellness.

  • myofascial release (MFR) - fascia is connective tissue. Connective tissue adhesions can develop as a result of activities, posture, scar tissue from old and new injuries. These fascial adhesions can limit range of motion, create pain, discomfort, contribute to poor posture and even affect organ function since we have connective tissue around muscles and viscera.

  • cranioSacral therapy (CST) - a gentle technique that releases tensions deep in the whole body by focusing on the tissues around the central nervous system. Especially effective for headaches, migraines, post-concussion syndrome, fibromyalgia, brain and spinal cord injuries, chronic fatique, childhood conditions, injuries, trauma and much more.

  • deep tissue - more pressure is used to release stubborn or deep muscle tension or pain.

  • trigger point release - trigger points can cause localized or referred pain and tension in the body. They can be caused by injury, activities, or posture. They can be released by applying pressure for up to one minute.

  • swedish massage - the most common type of massage. Massage oil is used and long strokes are applied in the direction of blood flow toward the heart. Very relaxing. Light to deep pressure can be used.

  • reiki - a light touch modality that balances energy centres (chakras), clears energy blockages and energy that is not your own. Benefits are deep relaxation, mental, emotion and spiritual wellness, increased connection with self and intuition.
